Teacher tenure has pros and cons. As an international student, I would like to think of this issue from an outsider's view point.
From all the background information, news report and interviews, we already got a sense of how teacher tenure has pros and cons. Since it has both, then we need to look at if pros are bigger than cons or the other way around.
I think, the con is that teachers may get lazy and slack off. However, the pro is to protect not only good teachers but most importantly, creative, innovative teachers, because those non-traditional teachers are the ones that fall into the danger of getting fired most often. Also, we can imagine that no matter how much of a adjustment we make on our educational system, as long as there is tenure, there is always gonna be some lazy teachers. So the problem is, some lazy teachers comparing to giving up academic creativity in teachers, which is worse?
Regarding the fact that the US is known for its creativity and its successful production of creative talents, we should say that teacher tenure has more pros than cons.
